How to carve out a career.
Councillor David Ireton, ex-butcher turned politico, has very swiftly found how to be all things to all men.
He made a good start by using his second vote in favour of himself as chairman for the second year running at Craven District Council, claiming yet more allowances of our money, and then hit the ground running by joining the extremely well paid quango, North Yorkshire Police Authority, at around £8k for 4 meetings per annum.
On Craven District Council where the council is controlled by an alliance of Lib-Dems and so called Independents, Ireton is an Independent, thereby staying on the ruling group, both as a councillor and as chairman.
On North Yorkshire County Council, where he is also a councillor, the ruling body is Conservative, so to which party does Ireton state he belongs?
Why!
Conservative of course!
Next step Westminster surely, for our chameleon friend?

How in the name of God can Ireton and his ilk sleep nights?
From the outside looking in, it is clear that Ireton and co are a small but powerful ruling faction whose behaviour blackens the name and reputation of the majority of decent Craven councillors.
Self-serving, greed driven - and mostly incompetent, they stick together like the petty wastrels they are. But Craven's ruling handful of trough-snuffling hogs are relative smalltimers.
Although their pocket-lining school of governance is patently obvious, such is their contempt for the electorate that they make no attempt to conceal their milkingof the sytem for every last pound.
Come on, you decent and caring majority of elected members - throw out these scumbags. You know who they are - and the sooner Craven has a change of regime the better.
Why isn't there a CDC Register of members' interests, in which they log all payments from all sources other than their regular employment?
Also their memberships and affiliations with quangos and other taxpayer-funded institutions?
While those who have proper jobs should also declare their employer's name and business activities.
We keep hearing from the our council leader and others that CDC is an "open" and "transparent" body. So put your money (and other fiscal interests) where your mouth is - and prove it!
