The truth, the whole truth, is nothing like

The Council truth.

Or how Craven District Council adopted Pinocchio as a mascot.

If you care to look at Craven District Council’s website, then you will see a page

This was so far from what CRAG perceived as the truth that we complained to the district auditor. After all, hadn’t we written confirmation from the council (see HERE) that the cost was around £¾ Million?

So how come that figure had halved?

Easy. Well easy for the way that Craven District Council account for money.

This whole affair started out as the “Renaissance Affair” and then, when the council decided that democracy wasn’t working in their favour they sacked the democratically elected representatives, and controlled the thing themselves.

When even that wasn’t enough, they decided to part company from the Renaissance Team, and reinvent themselves as ‘Skipton Developments.’

A reinventing of which even Madonna would have been proud.

So all the money spent up to that date is ignored, that now is simply Renaissance Money, and the new sum of £368,000 has been accepted by the District Auditor as being a reasonable way to alter costs, by simply re-naming the project!

To add insult to injury they then tell us that there has been no direct call on council tax payers to meet these costs!
With those who aren’t sure what the difference is between a ‘direct call’ and a ‘call’ we sympathise, because neither are we.

One thing we ARE sure of however is this - WE paid for ALL the outgoings, it was OUR money, not the councillors’, not the Chief Executive’s, and not the Director of Community Services.

It was OURS

Once upon a time.

Shouldn’t this include YOU, councillor Lis?
